“’Where’s Daddy?’ What do you tell a three-year-old? … I said, ‘Baby, Daddy loves you so much. Don’t you worry. He’s on a work trip with Jesus …’”
These were the words of Erika Kirk in her first public appearance after her husband Charlie Kirk’s assassination. (September 12, 2025) He is now a martyr for his Christian faith. The shed blood of the martyrs brings revival.
But how can one forgive this tragedy? Charlie left behind his wife and two small children. Yet, forgiveness must be done.
Our loving Savior, as He was hanging on the instrument of His torment, forgave:
Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” (Luke 23:34)
I MUST FORGIVE
Tears were brought to my eyes, this week whenever Charlie Kirk’s death came up (September 10, 2025). It set the stage for my week. This along with the 24th anniversary of the tragedy of 9/11.
(I think these two days should be a federal holiday! Some say that 9/11 is being forgotten! According to some, it’s just a footnote in the history books of many schools!)
After periodic crying all week, and not enough sleep, I really blew it. I lashed out on the phone at some stupid incident. It was a good thing that I was talking to an artificial voice! I think I would have been kinder to a real person! I then went into tears.
In the middle of my bawling, I prayed for the hostages in Israel. Yes, there are still, after almost two years, hostages after the October 7th vicious attack. What these hostages have endured is beyond belief!
Then when I was done with my weeping, I knew I must forgive.
I forgave the driver of this “stupid incident”.
I forgave myself for my little fit. Sometimes we don’t always forgive ourselves!
And I forgave myriad others.
THE CHURCH MUST FORGIVE
“And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.” (Matthew 6:12, also see Luke 11:4)
Forgive the leftist politicians who are seeking to destroy our Republic.
Forgive these radical college professors that are putting this communist propaganda into the minds of the youth.
Forgive the radical Islamists who want to set up sharia law in our country.
Forgive the throw-it-in-your-face transsexuals.
Forgive the greedy drug dealers.
Forgive the murderous illegal aliens.
They don’t know what they are doing! But that doesn’t mean we forget what they have done.
“FORGIVE & FORGET”?
There is no where in the Bible that this phrase is seen. A politician who always lies cannot be trusted. One must forgive, but one must remember that he lies.
We must be wise.
“Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.” (Matthew 10:16)
Yep. We are living in a world of wolves. Therefore, we must be walking in forgiveness! However, don’t forget the havoc they are wreaking through their blatant sins on our society. We need to STAND FIRM against the enemy of our souls, the very force of evil, who instigates these horrendous actions! Remember, unbelievers have the same enemy! That’s why they are so confused about the issues and life!
THE #1 JOY SAPPER
How can one forgive an abusive parent or a rapist or a murderer? It is a matter of will.
(The following is from my book JOY IS A JEWEL with updated links.)
Un-forgiveness. What a joy sapper! What a thief! Un-forgiveness steals joy, makes one bitter, eats away at one’s health, gives you extra wrinkles and gray hair! Why hold on to it? Let it go!
Forgiveness is a decision, an act of your will. Your born-again spirit- man in you holds NO un-forgiveness. Un-forgiveness is in the flesh and un-submitted parts of your soul.
Therefore, choose to forgive.
But one may protest again, “I don’t feel like forgiving! I can’t help how I feel!” Oh, really? Then one is allowing emotions to rule one’s life. Feelings have usurped authority. Feelings are sitting on the throne of the heart and have booted God off! Those negative emotions are un-submitted to God. They need to be put in their proper place.
Or perhaps one is even more defiant against God’s command to forgive, and declares, “I will NOT forgive!” In this area then, the will is not surrendered to the will of the Father. But Christ taught us to pray to Our Father, “Thy will be done.” One must forgive to have joy!
THE REMEDY FOR UN-FORGIVENESS
Confess to God one’s sin of un-forgiveness. Tell God how you feel! King David did. Pray that He changes your heart.
Choose to forgive as an act of obedience to God Almighty who requires it. Choose! This is aligning your soul with the will of God. Your spirit already wants to forgive!
Pray for help from the Holy Spirit and read Scriptures to renew your mind.
Pray for the person who wronged you. Pray that God’s will be done in his life. Pray God’s best for that person’s life. Prayer is an expression of good will for someone. Good will is the opposite of ill will. By an act of sheer obedience in praying for someone who has wronged you, you will in effect be submitting your will under God’s will.
“Bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.” Luke 6:28
PRAY TO MAKE “HEAVEN CROWDED”
When people come to Christ, they are changed, transformed by the Spirit of God now resident in them. Some were once murderers, idolaters, homosexuals, thieves and such but they repented and came to Christ the Savior.
And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. (1 Corinthians 6:11)
The Lord has patience and is “not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9) God wants everyone to enter His Kingdom through being born-again of the Spirit. And that’s where we come in. We need to be persuading people about the gospel. That’s what Charlie Kirk was doing, persuading and “making heaven crowded.”

NOTE added on 9/22/25: On September 21st, at the Turning Point memorial* held for Charlie Kirk, Erika Kirk publicly forgave the murderer of her husband. She probably had forgiven him previously in private. I’m sure this wasn’t easy. But it was in obedience to Christ and an act of her will.
