Nobody likes to wait! But waiting for God’s promise to be fulfilled “produces patience”.
JAMES 1:2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
A scene from The Chosen (Season 3, Episode 5) struck me with a new fascination. It was about waiting for the Messiah. Time passed by, generations went by, and the chosen people were still waiting on Messiah. The father explained to his sons how his father was waiting for the Messiah, and then he was waiting for the Messiah, and now his sons were called to follow the Messiah. Wow! Yet how long did the chosen people wait for the promised Savior to come?
They were waiting for Messiah since God pronounced the judgment on Adam & Eve’s sin, as the LORD spoke to the serpent, the deceiver:
GEN 3:15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”
The chosen people were waiting for Messiah during Noah’s time, as God sent deliverance in the form of an Ark for those who would be saved. This was deliverance from the Nephilim who were threatening to annihilate the Eve’s Seed.
The chosen people were waiting for Messiah during Moses’ time.
DEUT 18:15“The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear,”
The chosen people were waiting for Messiah during Abraham’s time.
GEN 17:19 Then God said: “… Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his descendants after him. … 21 … My covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this set time next year.”
GEN 49:10 The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes; And to Him shall be the obedience of the people.
“Shiloh” = perhaps “he whose it is,” a Messianic title (Strong’s Concordance)
The chosen people were waiting for Messiah during their time of slavery in Egypt. And then the LORD instituted the Passover, a sign that the blood of Yeshua the Messiah would be upon the doorposts of our hearts when He would come the first time.
1COR 5:7b “For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.”
The chosen people were waiting for Messiah during King David’s time.
2 SAM 7:12 “When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.
13 He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.
….16 And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever.”
The chosen people were waiting for Messiah during the prophets’ time.
ISA 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.7 Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
ISA 53:11 He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, For He shall bear their iniquities.
And chosen people were waiting for Messiah while there was no new Word from the LORD! This intertestamental period is about 400 years. (Not that the people themselves didn’t hear from the LORD on a personal level, but there was no prophetic Word about the LORD.)
All in all, they were waiting for Messiah for about 4000 years until the first coming of the LORD!
MESSIAH IS COMING AGAIN!
Yet Yeshua promised He would come again!
JOHN 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and welcome you into My presence, so that you also may be where I am.
Knowing He would be crucified soon, He assured them of this! He said it and I believe it for He is faithful! Let us be patient and keep waiting for Messiah to return this second time! We have half the time of the OT saints!
HOS 6:2 After two days He will revive us; On the third day He will raise us up, That we may live in His sight.
This is a prophetic timeline of the LORD. A day, in this case, is a millennium, just as it is in this timeline of 7 days in the creation. According to Hebrew sources, it outlines a day for a millennium in the case of an overview of the history of mankind, from the fall of man (0) to the Millennium (6000 – 7000 yrs.) and finally we will enter a New Heaven and a New Earth at the end of this 7000 yr. period. (“Seven” is the number of “completeness”.)
There are 7 words in the Hebrew of the first verse of the Genesis and it shows an outline for 7000 years from a Hebrew perspective. For more detail on this go to this YouTube re Bereshit.
0 (fall of Adam) – 1000 years
1000-2000 years
2000-3000 years
3000-4000 (King David about 1000BC then Christ as Emmanuel starting AD)
4000-5000 years
5000-6000 Now – but near the end of this world system!*
6000-7000 (Wedding Feast Rev 19:7; right at the beginning of the Millennial Reign)
The LORD will reign during this Millennial Kingdom Age on earth as the Prince of Peace! Then there is prophesied a New Heaven and a New Earth.
*(Over the years, the calendar has had many changes, so we are not quite certain of exact dates! Yet, our Heavenly Father knows! See God’s Very Own Calendar)
CHOSEN PEOPLE
Who are these chosen people? These are the elect. These elect or chosen are those who have true faith in Messiah, the saints of God!
2 THES 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth, 14 to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The OT saints who have waited for the first coming of the LORD and the NT saints who have already passed on into glory are already in spirit & soul with the Savior. And the NT saints are awaiting the “resurrection of the just” (Luke 14:14) when “we shall be like Him” (1 John 3:2) and receive heavenly bodies.
MATT 24:31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet [the Feast of Trumpets], and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
We, the elect, who have faith in Messiah are ALL the seed of Abraham.
ISA 45:4 For Jacob My servant’s sake, And Israel My elect, I have even called you by your name…
ROM 9:6 …. For they are not all Israel who are of Israel, 7 nor are they all children because they are the seed of Abraham [ex: sons of Esau]; but, “In Isaac your seed shall be called.” 8 That is, those who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted as the seed.
