The Day of the LORD

JOEL 2:11 For the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; Who can endure it?

The “Day of the Lord” is linked to the coming of Christ who will come “like a thief in the night” (1Thes 5:2), the deliverance of the righteous, and the judgment for the wicked.

(NOTE: Other “Days of the Lord” have occurred in the past. However, here we are talking about the BIG one, at the end of the age.)

YAHWEH REIGNS!

Below are some of my lyrics that speak of the Day of the LORD.

… The earth is quaking, shaking worldly thrones
Conquered by Yeshua King, the Lord is reigning with His own.
Who can withstand the day of his coming?
Who can withstand his holiness?
Who can withstand the day of his coming?
Only those clothed in His righteousness!

One needs to be covered by the blood of Yeshua and therefore covered with His righteousness !

On earth, this Day is described as “terrible” and “darkness”. It is a day of wrath. Thank God, true Christians have nothing to fear! We’re out of here in the first resurrection!

1THES 5:9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

REV 20:6 Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.

A DAY OF DARKNESS

These Scriptures, being double-prophecies, have partially happened but they all predict the Day of the LORD at the very end of this age. Listen to how these prophets portray this Day on earth:

ISA 13:6 Wail, for the day of the LORD is at hand! It will come as destruction from the Almighty.

AMOS 5:18 Woe to you who desire the day of the LORD! For what good is the day of the LORD to you? It will be darkness, and not light.

JOEL 1:15 Alas for the day! For the day of the LORD is at hand; It shall come as destruction from the Almighty.

JOEL 2:31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the LORD.

EZE 30:3 For the day is near, Even the day of the LORD is near; It will be a day of clouds, the time of the Gentiles.

ZEPH 1:14 The great day of the LORD is near; It is near and hastens quickly. The noise of the day of the LORD is bitter; There the mighty men shall cry out.

This is the judgment of the LORD for those who have chosen wickedness over His Spirit.

NEW COSMIC ORDER

This following Scripture concerning the Day of the LORD will come after the Millennial (REV 20:6), Satan’s one last rebellion (REV 20:7-10), and the Great White Throne judgement (REV 20:11a).

(This Day could be a separate event as it occurs after the Millennial Reign. OR it is one continuous Day (about 1000 years) including the wrath of God, the Millennial Reign, and the old earth and heaven passing away.)

2 PET 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

This above passage indicates that the present cosmic order will be no longer. The following Scripture states that “earth and heaven fled away from His presence”! So 2 Peter and Revelation 20:11 seem to indicate the same time.

REV 20:11 Then I saw a great white throne and the One seated on it. Earth and heaven fled from His presence, and no place was found for them.

This is preparing the way for the new earth and new heaven.

REV 21:1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

We may see all the beauty and wonders of this present earth. But what has God conceived for His precious Bride in this new creation! It must be super spectacular!

CONCLUSION

True Christians, those who have been born-again, not somebody playing church, will be able to discern the times as shown in Matthew 24 when the Day of the LORD is approaching.

1THES 5:4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. 5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.

Be ready! Be prepared! Do not cast away the FIRST LOVE of the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY.
