As Saint Peter wrote in his epistles, this is also “to God’s elect”, those who have eternal life.
Peter denied Yeshua three times when the LORD was arrested. After His resurrection, when He appeared to the disciples, the LORD asked Peter “Do you love me?” After his affirmative answer three times, Yeshua told him to feed my sheep or lambs, three times. (John 21:15-19) Peter was graciously forgiven by Yeshua.
So, Peter did feed the sheep. His two letters attest to that. Peter eventually was martyred for the cause of Christ. His letters reveal precious promises from the LORD to us, the believers in Yeshua!
Precious Promises
from 1 Peter
1:3 (ESV) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
BORN AGAIN – Yes, Peter used the term “born again”! We, those who trust in Christ alone, are born again! So now we do have hope of our own resurrection!
1PET 1:23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever,
TIT 2:13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,
(If you believe the Word of God, this proves that Yeshua is our Savior and God! If you have questions on this, please read this article.)
INHERITANCE – We will live forever in His Kingdom (heaven) and rule and reign with the King!
1JOHN 2:25 And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life.
GUARDED – No matter what happens to believers in this time on earth, we will be guarded through life for the bodily salvation that will come at the Feast of Trumpets at the “resurrection of the just”.
ROM 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
PRECIOUS PROMISES
from 2nd Peter
Pertaining to life and godliness
1:3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,
Everything we need for our lives and godliness has been provided for us! Seek it! Don’t ignore it! Live it!
EXCEEDINGLY GREAT AND PRECIOUS PROMISES
1:4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
Partakers of the divine nature
Our spirits are ALREADY saved for true believers have the Holy Spirit indwelling us!
ROM 8:9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.
Our souls are continuing to be saved which is called sanctification.
1PET 1:9 (ESV) obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
And finally, we will at the “resurrection of the just”, we will “be like Him”! Amazing! How wondrous!
1JOHN 3:2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
Purged from our old sins
1:9 (KJV) But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
We are cleansed from our sins! Believe that! Act like it! You are forgiven by Almighty God!
1JOHN 2:2 And He Himself is the propitiation [atoning sacrifice] for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.
Prophetic word
1:19 And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts;
Christians have the Word of God and we should put our trust in it. It is inerrant in it’s original language. It is easy to look up the Greek or Hebrew on the computer now if it is unclear.
PSA 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
Just think… that the LORD communicates to His people! This is the God of the whole universe that talks to us and makes His way, THE WAY, known to us through Yeshua!
New heavens & new earth
3:13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
His Kingdom is one of “righteousness, peace and joy”! Yet, we await the day because the LORD doesn’t want the LOST to perish!
3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
May we get with the program, the Great Commission, and lead others to Christ! It is my desire, for it is the LORD’s, to live for this purpose – to save souls!
OUR FAITH IS ALSO PRECIOUS
1PET 1:7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, 8 whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,
To the LORD, our faith in Christ, whom most of us have never seen, is more precious than gold! In the 2nd letter, Peter also says:
2PET 1:1 …. To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:
This verifies this Scripture:
HEB 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
May we “diligently seek Him”! His precious promises – especially eternal life (without which you are condemned to misery) – are wholly worth it!
