Is America the Beautiful? It Could Be!

Let’s make a new tradition! At your Thanksgiving dinner tables, let us sing “America the Beautiful” (see lyrics at the end of this article) and make this the song a heartfelt pray!

It is always an intercessors’ pursuit to bring God’s best out of a given situation. We are in a dire situation now at this time. But there is always hope in Christ!

I awoke this morning (November 14, 2023) having sung this song in my dream. The part that stayed with me when I woke up was “till all success, be nobleness, and every gain divine!”

Our successes should be with a high moral fiber, not like many Americans have been noted for as in recent years. Our gains, what we achieve, should be of a divine nature! This is possible only with God as our Light.

2 PETER 1:3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, 4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. 5 For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, 7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. 8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. (ESV)

In other words, we need Christ to be king over our lives! We pray for this!

The Prayers

Taking the ideas from these lyrics, have a person pray for one of these specifics:

Pray about freedom!

Pray about justice and liberty in law!

Pray about the heroes, the war vets of our country!

Pray that God would “mend [our] every flaw”!

Pray about the homeless in our cities that they no longer will be
dimmed by human tears!

Pray that our country be blessed with God’s grace, an undeserved favor of the LORD!

Pray that we would enjoy peace and brotherhood!

And sing this song again next year, and the next, and the next, till we fulfill the words of this song, “till all success, be nobleness, and every gain divine!”

Have a most wonderful, blessed Thanksgiving!

America, the Beautiful

“America the Beautiful”, an American patriotic song, is featured in many hymnbooks. It was originally a poem by Katharine Lee Bates, remembering the view near Pikes Peak. This is the 1911 edited edition. The music was composed by Samuel A. Ward, an organist and choirmaster from New Jersey.

O beautiful for spacious skies,

For amber waves of grain,

For purple mountain majesties

Above the fruited plain!

America! America!

God shed His grace on thee

And crown thy good with brotherhood

From sea to shining sea!

*

O beautiful for pilgrim feet,

Whose stern, impassioned stress

A thoroughfare for freedom beat

Across the wilderness!

America! America!

God mend thine every flaw

,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,

Thy liberty in law!

*

O beautiful for heroes proved

In liberating strife,

Who more than self their country loved

And mercy more than life!

America! America!

May God thy gold refine,

Till all success be nobleness,

And every gain divine!

*

O beautiful for patriot dream

That sees beyond the years

Thine alabaster cities gleam

Undimmed by human tears!

America! America!

God shed His grace on thee

And crown thy good with brotherhood

From sea to shining sea!
