Who has not wondered why we were created?
The Westminster Catechism (1648) gives the simple answer:
Question 1: What is the chief and highest end of man?
Answer: Man’s chief and highest end is to glorify God, and fully to enjoy him forever.
How wonderful is our purpose! We were made for fellowship, for fellowship with the LORD, our Creator!
And the LORD delights in delighting us!
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.
James 1:17
Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 37:4
I believe this is a double-entendre. If you delight yourself in the LORD, you will ultimately change your desires towards HIM! You want to please Him. Now your desires are His wishes. His desire is for you, and you are His desire.
Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You.
Psalm 73:25
However, we are being trained. The earth is like a school and we are being trained to think and to act by the Spirit of God within us.
Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
1 John 3:2
