The Worthy and the Scorned

(And Everyone In-Between)

THE HARVEST

I asked a minister friend of mine recently what the Lord was speaking to her and she replied, “Souls, souls, souls”.

Our Lord said, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.  Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”   (Luke 10:2)

Father, we do pray for the laborers for the harvest.  We pray for the masses of “souls, souls, souls” to come into the Kingdom, escaping the wrath and judgment to come.

When I was in France at grape harvest time, I noticed that everyone, yes, EVERYONE healthy was put into the work of the harvest, even children!   May we be willing ourselves to work in the harvest and may the Lord give us efficient ways to bring in a bountiful one!

The Lord is sending us out into the fields.  We’ve been praying and crying out for revival.  Would that not necessitate mass conversions?!

What I’d like to share here are two specific Scriptural methods for an abundant harvest that the LORD has been emphasizing to me recently.

THE WORTHY “SON OF PEACE”

In Matthew 10, the Lord told the Apostles to search for “some worthy person” in the towns to which they were sent ahead.  These worthy ones would be used of God to prepare the townsfolk for the Master’s soon arrival.

In Luke 10, similarly, the Lord sent the Seventy to find in each town the “son of peace”, looking for a host home, an influential hub for the sharing of the Good News.

In Acts 10, Peter is sent to Cornelius, a “devout and God-fearing” Gentile.  He gathers his family and friends to hear the Good News.  They all believe, get filled with the Holy Ghost and speak in tongues as evidence of their genuine faith.

Today, there are “sons of peace” who have yet to hear the Gospel in order to believe.   Once they have been reached and reconciled to God through Christ, they will share the Good News with their families and friends.

If the laborers are few, if the time is short, then let’s pray to find and reach the worthy “sons of peace” who can influence whole communities for Christ.

Our Abba Father, LORD of the Harvest, we pray for community leaders to believe in Yeshua, the Savior of the world.  May they be born again, renewed in their minds, and lead many others to Christ.

We pray for unsaved pastors and unsaved priests and members in dead churches to have a true revelation and so “preach Christ and Him crucified”

We pray for the imams who have a heart to know the truth but have never heard it.   May they hear and believe and then influence whole mosques for Yeshua, who is the Truth.

We pray for tribal chiefs to come to know the Great Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Christ and then lead into Your Kingdom entire tribes!

We pray for sweet moms who have opened their own homes to all the children in the neighborhood.   May the moms know Your perfect love and salvation and then share Your goodness with the precious little ones in their care!

We pray for the “sons of peace” and the many souls they will lead into the Kingdom.

Father, we ask that You direct us, Your laborers,  to proclaim Your Word to the worthy “sons of peace”.

THE SCORNED

Having lived a less than exemplary life-style, the scorned and shunned woman went to the village well at a time when few others would be there.  But there, by the grace, the unmerited favor of God, she met the Promised One, the Messiah who told her all that she ever did.   She drank of His Living Water!   Her shame was washed away!  No longer fearing rejection, she went boldly and invited everyone else to come and meet Yeshua.

“Many Samaritans from that town believed in Him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me all that I ever did.”   (John 4:39)

This once scorned woman became a most effective evangelist!  Through her leading many to Christ, a community was radically changed within two days!

If the laborers are few, if the time is short, then let’s pray that the Lord send across our paths people like the woman at the well, people whose changed lives testify to the power of the Resurrected Lord!

Who are the scorned today?

Our Abba Father, the LORD of the Harvest, we pray for the gang leader who knows no other way of life, but secretly longs for a better one.  May he find new life in Christ.

We pray for those caught in human trafficking, the slave trade of our day and their captors.    As You delivered the 18th century slave trader John Newton who then went on to write “Amazing Grace, we’re praying for slave traders today as well to come to their knees in repentance by Your truly amazing grace!   Lord, set the captors and their captives free!

We pray for those bound by drugs and alcohol and lust.    We pray for those in witchcraft and perversion.  We pray for the idol-worshippers.  We pray for the thieves and for those on death row.   We pray for the crooked and the despicable.    Unlikely candidates all for holiness to our human eyes, but we know You, Father, are a God of great mercy!

“SHOW THEM THE CROSS”

“Show them the cross” is what the Lord spoke to me recently in prayer.  I went that week to the mall, armed with prayer and gospel tracts.   I had one with a drawing of Christ carrying the cross which I showed to some people.   I walked around and had a few conversations but nothing that seemed promising or too fruitful.   I left and went into the parking lot.   There near my car, I saw a young man.   I showed him the drawing of Christ and the cross.  He asked me about it.   I shared the gospel with him and he listened intently.  He had never heard what I was sharing but he was eager to hear.  He let me pray with him even though he was Muslim.  The Holy Spirit told me that he was the one that I was there for.  The Good Shepherd goes after the one lost sheep.  I believe he was a “son of peace” with a sincere heart to know God.   I believe he will lead many to the Lord and I actually prophesied that to him.

O Good Shepherd, we ask that You direct our paths to the lost sheep, that You place those who are hungering for righteousness across our paths.  Let us show them the cross on which the scorned Christ was crucified.  May they know Him, His redemption and His resurrection power!  May they, in turn, with  passion go forth and tell everyone they know about Yeshua Messiah, the prophesied and promised Savior of the world!

IT’S HARVEST TIME!

“Behold, the days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when the plowman shall overtake the reaper and the treader of grapes him who sows the seed; the mountains shall drip sweet wine, and all the hills shall flow with it.”    (Amos 9:13)

That verse is the promise of revival!  I cried with joy reading Matthew Henry’s  comment on this portion of Scripture:

“When all seems desperate, he wonderfully revives his church, and blesses her with all spiritual blessings in Christ Jesus. And great shall be the glory of that period, in which not one good thing promised shall remain unfulfilled.”

Certainly, everything looks desperate now.   Our only hope is for the Lord to answer our earnest prayers!

Father, let it be!   Let it be now!   We’re asking, Father,  for revival – for whole towns, whole communities, even whole nations to believe, for nothing is too difficult for You!  And we ask according to Your Word, which promises that the Holy Spirit will be poured out on all flesh!   (Joel  2:28)  Pour out Your Spirit, O Lord!  We pray for the harvest!   Amen!

HalleluYAH!  It’s harvest time!  “And great shall be the glory of that period”!   O Glory, HalleluYAH!
