I have to admit that often I skim over the salutations of the epistles to get to the “meat”. But what precious nuggets are even in the greetings! What an appetizer we have here!
A major doctrine of authentic* Christianity is that Jesus Christ was both human and divine, both man and God. This is supported throughout Scriptures but here is yet another expression of this truth:
“concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David, according to the flesh and declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of holiness….” (Romans 1:3-4)
Jesus Christ is Emmanuel, “God with us”!
* I make a distinction of “authentic” here because there are some cult-like denominations using (abusing?) the name of Christ that do not hold this standard foundational doctrine. As the letter to the church of Sardi stated, “you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead.” (Rev 3:1)
