TO BE SPIRIT-FILLED

ONLY WITH JESUS CHRIST are we able to live in

and by the HOLY SPIRIT!

We are to live thusly as children of God, having this order of authority in our lives:

1. The Holy Spirit of Christ
2. The new spirit in Christ (being born-again!)
3. The soul in the process of sanctification to become like Christ
4. The body

But many are not born-again!  One must believe and trust in the LORD Jesus Christ who is the Savior of the world.  (See Christ Bore Our Sin)

BORN-AGAIN SPIRIT

5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”  John 3:5-8  (NKJV)

A soul without Christ VS. a soul WITH CHRIST

When one sins, and everybody sins excepting the Savior, the spirit dies to God!   It must be born-again in Christ!

“For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.”   1Cor 15:22

“Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.’”  John 3:3

We are triune beings: spirit, soul, and body. 

The English definitions sometimes equates spirit and soul.  However, in the Word of God, these two are definitely NOT the same. 

spirit = Hebrew: 7307 ruwach; Greek: 4151 pneuma 

soul = Hebrew 5315. nephesh; Greek 5590 psuche

“For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it pierces even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It judges the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)

When Adam & Eve sinned, or when we sin, our spirits die. In other words they were no longer in the spiritual presence of God who is LIFE.  Death, in the Hebrew, means “separation”.  This is separation from YHWH God who is LIFE.  But those who have been “born-again” through faith in Jesus Christ, have a NEW SPIRIT.  This spirit is one with Christ.

The soul is immortal.  A soul includes the mind, will, and emotions.  If one is not born-again, the soul will go to hell when the body dies because one cannot enter the kingdom of God, without being born-again in Christ!  You must be born-again!  That is the word of the LORD!

The born-again spirit, however, already in Christ, will transport the soul to heaven when it is time! We have eternal security.

HOW TO BE FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT

“17Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, 20giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21submitting to one another in the fear of God.”  

Ephesians 5:17-21

15What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.  (1Cor14 AKJ)

“… be filled with the Spirit … singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord”
