“Love” is pronounced “ah/ha/VA” in Hebrew. Notice the similarity between “I AM” ( אהיה ) and “love” ( אהבה )!
אהיה = אהבה
(Hebrew is read from right to left.)
I AM = love
God [I AM] is love. (1John 4:16)
First John
First John is an epistle teaching Christians that we should demonstrate a love for God through loving our sisters and brothers. Many of us know John 3:16. Yet 1 John 3:16 is this:
By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
SCRIPTURE SONGS
These scripture songs remind us to love the brethren and how much the Father loves us. They are simple but pack a lot of truth!
These songs with melodies are posted here.
1.
This is My commandment that you love one another that your joy may be full. (2x)
That your joy may be full. That your joy may be full.
This is My commandment that you love one another that your joy may be full.
Reference:
1John 1:4 And these things we write to you that your joy may be full.
1John 3:23 And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.
2.
Behold what manner of love the Father has given unto us,
Behold what manner of love the Father has given unto us,
That we should be called the sons of God!
That we should be called the sons of God!
Reference:
1John 3:1 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. 2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. 3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
3. This is one of my first songs written in 1987. Chorus and third verse. See here for all verses.
O Holy King of Israel
Who reigns upon the throne
You’re coming for those who’d believe
You’re coming for Your own.
O Holy King of Israel
O Holy King, Immanuel!
When He appears, we shall be like Him
For we shall see Him as He is!
4.
Greater is He who is in me, Greater is He who is in me, Greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world.
Reference:
1John 4:4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
Public domain songs, I believe.
A Contradiction?
On the surface, it seems there is a contradiction in the writings of the beloved John.
1John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
1John 5:18 We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him.
The Greek term used here suggests a continuous action, indicating that a true believer does not persist in a lifestyle of sin. (Study Bible)
This is a misunderstanding of the Greek. The English Standard Version expresses a more accurate verse:
We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him.
CONCLUSION: GOD IS LOVE
1John 4:16 And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.
HalleluYAH! Because …
COL 1:13 He [Yeshua] has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,
therefore
1John 4:19 We love Him because He first loved us.
