The BEGINNING

Written by:

From a Bible Study on the Book of JOHN:

JOHN 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God

What other passages of Scripture does this sound like?

1 JOHN 1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life—

GEN 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Did you know that the first word of the Hebrew Bible has the plan of salvation outlined in code? This is fascinating and it is speaks to the creativity and brillance of our Creator. The more you study the Bible, the more insight you will have. These clues may be found on the internet from Messianic leaders and rabbis, who believe in Christ, and also have the added advantage of reading Hebrew. (See this video for a fuller explanation.)

So the very first line of the whole Bible is this:

בראשית ברא אלהים את השמים ואת הארץ׃

(Genesis 1:1) (Hebrew is read from right to left.)

This is the first word:

בראשית

“b’reshit” is translated “In the beginning” but it really means “In a beginning” because there is no definite article. God had already made some things, for example the angels, but it was the beginning of this particular universe.

This is my proof text about the LORD creating angels before:

JOB 38:4 “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? … 7 When the morning stars sang together, And all the sons of God shouted for joy?

So what is this code? There are words hidden in this first word! The words are:

Son, God, Thorns, Head, Tree, Gift, Covenant.

Think about these words. Doesn’t it hint at the gospel message?

If you take the first letters, it reads in the Hebrew what would be translated as “son”. And the next represents “God”. So there are other “words” in this word of בראשית .

The          .
Son       בר
H1247. בַּר (bar)
of        .
God        א
H430. אֱלֹהִים (elohim)/Aleph-Tav את
with         .
thorns   שית
H7898. שָׁ֫יִת (shayith)
on His          .
Head   ראש
H7218. רֹאשׁ (rosh)
is hung on a          .
Tree    ברש

H1265. בְּרוֹשׁ (berosh)

This is a

Gift,  שי

H7862. שָׁי (shay)

a Covenant!   ת represents “Covenant” & is a small cross in paleo-Hebrew!

The SON of GOD, with THORNS on His HEAD, is hung on a TREE. This is a GIFT, a COVENANT.

COVENANT is defined as an agreement, contract, mutual commitment, or a solemn promise made binding by an oath. Christians have a covenant with God. We believe and trust Yeshua the Messiah for His work of salvation in us and He gives us eternal life. We are born-again as sons of God! This is for us a NEW BEGINNING!

JOHN 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

The SON of GOD, with THORNS on His HEAD, is hung on a TREE, as a GIFT and a COVENANT.

Therefore, this shows that from the beginning of this creation, God had a plan: the Son of God, God’s “arm” sent forth into the world, would die for us for our sins.

JOHN 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

The WORD/LOGOS

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God.

What do you hear when you hear the Word? What do you think of? Printed words on a page? In this instance, the phrase “word” means more than that. In the original language, this is the Greek word “logos”. Depending upon the context, (and everything should be in context!) it may be interpreted these ways:

“Logos” has a normal meaning: a word, speech, or the act of speaking.
“Logos” may refer to the revelation of God to His people as in the “word of God”.
“Logos” refers to Yeshua the Messiah as we see in the Book of John.

HELPS Word-studies
3056 lógos (from 3004 /légō, “speaking to a conclusion”) – a word, being the expression of a thought; a saying. 3056 /lógos (“word”) is preeminently used of Christ (Jn 1:1), expressing the thoughts of the Father through the Spirit.

This is the Word made flesh:
Hebrews 1:1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son …

This is the WORD!

A parallel to “logos” is “dabar” (H1697). In the OT, it speaks of the “will of God”. Yeshua obeyed the will of God to the fullest, dying on the cross in our stead.

A VERY BIG BANG!

Yet God employed the Word to create the universe. When God said “Let there be light”, maybe there was a very BIG BANG! Scientists believe that this would necessitate the heavens being stretched out over time. The Scriptures verifies this:

JER 51:15 He has made the earth by His power; He has established the world by His wisdom, And stretched out the heaven by His understanding.

PSA 104:2 Who cover Yourself with light as with a garment, Who stretch out the heavens like a curtain.

JOB 9:8 He alone spreads out the heavens, And treads on the waves of the sea;

ISA 42:5a Thus says God the LORD, Who created the heavens and stretched them out …

How could these prophets know, before fairly-recent science, if it was not revealed to them by the LORD Almighty?!

“… the more we learn about science the more evidence we accumulate for the biblical doctrines of creation.”

This song “Bless the Lord!” contains the idea of “stretching out the heavens”:

///You stretched out the heavens///

And made this earth a special place in all that big, big cosmic space!

You made this earth a special place for me!
